Kid Stuff (or 'Mommy, I don't want a shot!)

Probably some  of my best work, though to tell the truth I'm not quite sure why. I don't have  any kids of my own and I don't really treat them much differently than I do  anyone else, but I like them and they seem to like me. They're great subjects.  Not only their beautiful features like smooth skin and silky hair, but their  whole outlook on life!

Kids are natural, spontaneous, overflowing with  ideas, excited about new experiences and fascinated by the simplest things. Look  at some of these photos where you see a little one just looking into the lens  with no sense of self consciousness whatsoever and you'll see what I  mean.

All this, plus the enormous satisfaction I get from watching some  of my young friends growing up year after year... first starting to walk and  talk, then getting too big to toss up in the air or photograph nude anymore,  starting school, on & on. The whole time growing and living and learning,  and maybe holding on to some of that childlike innocence that was captured on  film. I imagine them one day all grown up, graduating or getting married or with  kids of their own, then looking back at the photos we did, thinking of me and  smiling. That's cool.

So even though I wouldn't want to photograph  nothing but kids they keep me sharp, focused and tuned in and in shape crawling  or running all around, and in the most fundamental sense of the word... they  remind me what Beauty really is.

Just remember not to use the word  'shots' for photos - always makes the little guys nervous for some reason  ;')
